Profile
Fact and truth. Louisiana imprisons more people than any state or nation in the world. Google “innocence Project New Orleans” and see how they help the wrongfully convicted regain their freedom. When the prosecutors wrongfully convict someone, they gain promotions, but unethical prosecutors and law enforcement rarely face penalties for their misconduct. Louisiana sheriffs, police officers, judges and prosecutors are all linked together in an injustice system that is set up to destroy a black man and his family. Historian Jim Aiello, author of “Jim Crow’s Las Stand,” said using nonunanimous juries is an effort to “Re-enslave black men.” The idea is to convict as many black people as possible to send them to Angola, Louisiana where they could be used for convict leasing. Tony Hunter’s case is a reminder that racism and injustice in Louisiana has never gone away. Hunter was charged with a triple homicide based upon 3 jailhouse inmates fabricated words alone who were jailed with Hunter while he was serving a one-year sentence for an unrelated charge. Those inmates lied by claiming to have overheard Hunter talking about a triple homicide to their friend Glen Nelson through a protected glass window. Nothing at the crime scene such as DNA, fingerprints, footprints, or tire tracks in any way linked Hunter to the crime or crime scene. Unknow to the jury and jailhouse informants, Glen Nelson shot at Hunter two months before the triple homicide occurred. It is unreasonable at best that Hunter would have talked with a dangerous enemy who had previously attempted to murder Hunter. The prosecutor allowed jailhouse witnesses outright lies with his own version of false circumstances when the truth was readily available. These informants were facing serious jail time. The motive was to get a shorter sentence from the prosecutor. These informants had much to gain and little to lose by testifying falsely.
New evidence has come to light showing his complete innocence including an affidavit from one of the State’s witnesses admitting it was a jailhouse scam to get help from the DA.
The affidavit also affirms that Hunter and the jailhouse informants were enemies, and they never discussed the crime. This overwhelming evidence proves that Hunter is innocent and wrongfully imprisoned. The fact is Hunter should never have been convicted in the first place because the Jailhouse witnesses in his case were never credible. The jury simply believed 3 convicts’ stories without any evidence. Hunter has consistently maintained his innocence since his arrest May 4, 2001. And his story has never wavered. Hunter wants to relocate from Louisiana so he would be free from hate, racism, harm, and injustice. What has been done to Hunter is a travesty of justice. Hunter, his children, grandchildren, and mother are the true victims here. Truly Louisiana is the last slave state.
